Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa is remembered by the world for her selfless services to the poor and sick. She was born in Yugoslavia on August 26, 1910. Her original name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She came to India at the age of eighteen to join the Sisters of Loretto, with a mission in Kolkata. Initially she was a teacher in Kolkata, but the suffering and poverty she glimpsed outside the convent walls disturbed her. She left the convent school and devoted herself to the service of poor and slum dwellers. Actually for Mother, life was a mission to serve the suffering humanity. She was an emblem of service to the various charitable institutions founded by her such as Nirmal Hriday, Sishu Bhavan etc. She was honoured with many National and International Awards like Bharat Ratna, Noble Prize. This humanitarian passed away on September 5, 1997.
